Does anyone know how to take the base of divan bed apart? Its too big to fit into loft bedroom.?

I stupidly didn't check exact measurements. I have taken the material off one end of the divan base but there appears to be some sort of screw holding it together - I don't think it's a commonly used screw!

It is prob a machine fired staple or nail.

very difficult to get out and there will be lots of them, mostly the wood used in bed bases is not of a good standard so it makes breaking the wood a good possabilty.

So If it is like the divan bases it will be a wooden frame and covered in material. There may be screws - nails and glue and staples. There may be hardboard across the top and over the base. do not cut this.

Remove castors - claw hammer if they are a push fit type.

I would avoid takeing it apart as such and .

Think about cutting it in half - lentgh ways - you may have to cut thru 4 pieces of wood - but as you have the material off this will be easy to see.

Once you have both pieces up stairs - you can join them back together.

Do this by screwing a piece of wood over where you have cut - on both sides of the cut and make sure they are as long as poss.
But try and have these pieces of differant lenghts so as to spread the load. you can also put another piece on the underside.

If the wood you have is thicker than that of the bed frame you only have to match the levels at the top - so it does not affect the mattress.

You may also want to consider - what faceing there is on the hatch. maybe if it was removed the bed would go up - this would be maybe 1inch or 1 and half inches - but again this will take time to replace - chipped paint etc.

I would be surprised if you can dismantle a divan base as they are not constructed with that in mind.
Buy a pine self assembly bed as it will be dead easy to assemble in situ and dismantle again to remove. Existing mattress will sit on the pine slats.

The best option would be too cut it in half ,raterr thedismantlee it ,the chance ofgetting it to be rigid after dismantling it ,,is slim ,they are not designed to be loosened ,,after cutting in half .join together with fish plates,on four points ,you may have to fix a few wood battens in the cut ends to strengthen it .or return it to shop and buy a steel frame bed ,that do strip down ,for this reason ,,,,,,
