Where is a good place to look for unexpensive sofa's & loveseats?

I just got my first apartment and I'm looking for nice but cheap living room set. Does anyone know of any places in Maryland or D.C. region?

Don't think I'm crazy, but if you don't mind used furniture you should register with freecycle.org. It's a site where people give away useable stuff, usually an item at a time, because they don't want the bother of getting it to a thrift store or having something perfectly good end up in the dumps.

You just register (they are all over the globe!) with your local one, then 'post' what you are looking for. People then email you if they have it. Be specific in saying what you're looking for and make sure you tell them it has to be in good or excellent condition. You usually have to pick up the item from the donor.

This may not be ideal, but will get you going. Don't forget throws can cover up some less than desirable looking upholstery until you can get what you really want. Furniture is a big expense, so I'd not bother with the cheap stuff and waste your money when you could be saving for furniture you can love and live with for many years. (Buy throws that you can later use for something else, like drapes or bedspreads.)

Congratulations on the first apartment! Exciting times!!!!
