Show me another »How do you decide which furnishings are appropriate for your home?
Such as size, color, etc of framed art, rugs, plants ~ in addition to being attractive to the space, I need them to be kid friendly as well. Suggestions?

Buy furniture that is easy to clean, will not stain if you use Febreze on it and that is a neutral, mellow, semi-dark shade. Microfiber is a wonderful choice (soft, plush, comfortable, and in a variety of contemporary styles) and even greasy fingerprints and wet dog paw tracks can be cleaned with a white terrycloth towel, water and a little dish detergent. Purchase a light chocolate or nearly gray or moss green color to hide the stains you couldn't treat that are inevitable. Consider filagrie framed black and white stills of your family as opposed to boring doctor's office prints for art on your walls. Large, potted bamboo shoots are very low-maintenance plants and are very contemporary. If at all possible stay away from too much carpeting or huge area rugs because kids track dirt. You will find yourself constantly having to beat your rugs or scrub juice out of them. Lowe's has an excellent assortment of affordable and beautiful area rugs. Don't clutter your space with little kids. Comfortable furniture, a warm paint on the walls, simple but beautiful art, and simple plants will make your home look smart, sophiscated, and maintain your non-negotiable kid-friendly environment! - Always go with what is comfortable to you first.Then in colors you like,then sized for the space.That way you will be happy with your room.All rooms can enjoy a green live plant.Pick furniture with durable covers your dealer can help with that.
