You can use bedding made from wood shavings, just make sure it hasn't been treated with chemicals (as long as you get it at a pet shop, it should be fine). The main things to stay away from are: cedar (contains potentially dangerous resins), sawdust (too dusty, can cause excessive sneezing, and can lead to eye irritations), and old newspapers (may contain poisonous chemicals if eaten by the chin). I personally prefer Aspen shavings and none of my chins have ever had any problems with it.

I've never heard anything so ridiculous, pine furniture in a cage
Why not go the whole hog and put in a Stag suite
PS I don't mean a full grown male deer

Wood bedding can irritate them as well as contain harmful phenols. I'd recommend using a recycled paper bedding like CaraFresh instead. Even newspaper is better than wood.

It is fine to use pine, but some people say that it can cause respiratory problems. I had a Hamster that I used pine shavings for and he lived longer than usual. I know that Chinchillas are different than Hamsters, but they can't be much different. I have a Chinchilla now, but instead of using pine, I use Carefresh. It is biodegradable so it does not kill trees. It costs less too. Just a tip if you switch to Carefresh, your Chinchilla may eat it, that is fine, nothing bad is going to happen. It is like us eating paper. Nothing is going to happen . Trust me, Pine doesn't cause respiratory problems. If you want to use Pine shavings go ahead, but Carefresh is cheaper and biodegradable, so you could throw it on your lawn as fertilizer. I wouldn't do that though, considering it would stay there until it was washed away or it decomposed. So, it would be fine to use pine, but Carefresh is cheaper, easier and biodegradable. It looks like little rolled up pieces of tissue paper. It is easier on the pads of the animals feet too. Just a tip. It would be fine to use pine though if you want.
    Good luck!! GO CHINCHILLAS!!
